When my children were young, my mother bought them a dance DVD called Miss Christy’s Dance Class. They loved it so much that they used it almost daily for Phy. Ed.
The DVD offers lessons in jazz, ballet, and tap dance in 30 minute sessions. The video makes a perfect entertaining, easy-to-use exercise routine for kids ages 6 and up.

Engaging Lessons
The lessons are well thought out. Miss Christy starts out with a warm up in each section which is really important for dance. She then walks through some steps slowly at first with lots of repetition. Finally she picks up the pace and before you know it, your kids are dancing! Each section concludes with an energizing routine which combines the dance moves previously learned.

Miss Christy teaches proper posture and positioning. She offers modifications for certain positions which are particularly difficult. There are close-ups which make it easier for kids to see how to do a certain step.
There are kids ranging in age from about 5 to 12 dancing with Miss Christy. That’s a real inspiration for other kids.
Miss Christy is a professional choreographer and children’s dance specialist. She is very positive and empowering. She offers praise and encouragement throughout the video.
Money Saver
Using this video is a good way to determine your child’s interest level in dance. That’s a potential money saver to consider before investing in expensive classes.
Needed Space
One drawback of using a video like this is that you need to have sufficient space for doing the routines. It probably wouldn’t work well in a small, crowded apartment.
You also need to have a smooth hard surface for doing the tap dance steps. We used a piece of hardboard that I purchased at a home improvement store.
Our Experience
With Miss Christy’s Dance Class DVD, my kids learned how to dance tap, ballet, and jazz in a fun, easy way. They practiced nearly every day and before long they were doing graceful ballet movements, tapping away or grooving along to the words, “Pivot. Turn. Chasse.” They had a blast!
Overall, I think that this DVD is an entertaining exercise routine for kids that won’t break the bank. I highly recommend it.
