Phonics is the system of letter-sound relationships that exist in a language. Learning this system helps children learn to read.
When teaching your child to read, you’ll probably want to use a good phonics program. However, you can often supplement this program with free online resources.
Below is a list of sites with games, activities, and printables for teaching phonics. Some of these websites have fairly complete phonics programs while others have only supplemental resources. Use them as you see fit for your child.

Starfall: This popular phonics site offers free online books and activities, printable phonics readers, and worksheets.
Cool-Math Games: Cool-Math has a few games for beginning readers. Currently they have a beginning sounds game called “Starts With ?”, a vowel recognition game called “Vowel Splat”, and an alphabet game called “What Letter Comes Next?”
Teach Your Monster to Read: Your child can sign up to play free phonics games online at this site which is hosted by The Usborne Foundation.
PBS Kids: This site has a variety of online reading, rhyming, and alphabet games for kids based on the characters from PBS children’s shows.
Reading Bear: A free online reading program with videos and quizzes.
Fisher-Price: This is a link to a simple online phonics game for young children.
Vocabulary.co.il: This site has a collection of online phonics games as well as other games for learning.
ICT Games: This website has a collection of online phonics games and includes a description of each of their objectives.
Family Learning: This British site offers a nice collection of online phonics games.
SoftSchools: This site has a collection of interactive flashcards, online phonics games, and a worksheet generator.
Read Write Think: Offers free printouts, lessons, and online activities for teaching reading.
Fun Fonix: You can find free online games and worksheets on this site. Note: If you need more than 50 copies of any one sheet per year, you’ll have to pay a one time licensing fee.
Super Simple Learning: Has a collection of free resources including flash cards and alphabet sheets.
MES English: This site has free phonics printables.
Lanturnfish: A large assortment of free printables for teaching phonics is available here.
Kidzone: This website has word lists, activities and printable worksheets.
Free Phonics Worksheets: As the name suggests, this site has free phonics worksheets, lots of them.
K12 Reader: A collection of free worksheets for teaching phonics is available here.
School Express: This website has free phonics flashcards and worksheets.
