If you do, I recently found some coding for kids free resources that you can use to get them started. These resources cover a variety of programming languages including LOGO, JavaScript, and more. Some of the freebies I found are online tutorials and games while others involve offline activities and printables.
I think that all of these free resources can make learning computer programming enjoyable for your child.
Coding for Kids Free Resources
Code.org: This non-profit organization offers online courses for kids and teens of all ages.
Codecademy: Kids can learn to code interactively with this site.
Alice: Alice is free educational software that teaches computer programming in a 3D environment.
Scratch: With Scratch, kids can program their own interactive stories, games, and animations. They can then share their creations with others in an online community.
BotLogic: BotLogic is an educational puzzle game that challenges kids to tackle complex logic problems while teaching programming concepts.
Code Combat: Older kids can learn to code in a gaming environment on this site.
Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers free computer programming courses.
Turtle Academy: Kids can learn LOGO language free on this site.
W3 Schools: Get free tutorials for learning web development languages like HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
JS Dares: Kids can learn how to make their own games using JavaScript here.
Code Monster: Kids can learn how coding works by typing code in the left box and seeing the results in the right one.
All You Need is Code: Get free lesson plans for teaching coding.
CS Unplugged: You’ll find a collection of free learning activities that teach Computer Science without a computer. Activities include games, puzzles and more.
Brainpop Educators: You’ll find a free coding lesson plan here.
iGameMom: This has 11 activities that will help kids learning coding without a computer.
Research Parent: This page has a coding a LEGO maze activity that kids will like.
Little Bins for Little Hands: There’s an Algorithm Coding Game with free printable on this site.
Fractus Learning: Get a free printable Space Race Game that involves coding on this site.
