If you’d like to add a little something special to your homeschool library every month, you might want to look into story magazines for kids. These periodicals have everything from classics to modern works and can include not only stories, but works of nonfiction as well.
These magazines can also exercise your child’s cognitive abilities with puzzles and other activities. Some even come with crafts and science experiments that you could use in your homeschool.

Story Magazines for Kids
Highlights Magazine – Highlights has been publishing quality stories and activities in their magazine for years. In fact, I remember reading Highlights magazines when I was a child and I loved them. Perhaps, your child will enjoy them too. For ages 6 to 12 years.
Spider – Your kids can read stories, poems, folk tales, and nonfiction works by celebrated authors; see pictures by famous children’s illustrators; and do fun activities in Spider magazines. For ages 6 to 9 years.
Cricket – Cricket magazine will expose your children to both classic literature and contemporary stories by some of the best authors. The cast of funny bug characters add hilarious commentary and learning help to the stories. For ages 9 to 14 years.
Chickadee Magazine – Chickadee is more of a variety magazine with its stories, comics, puzzles, crafts, animal facts, science experiments and more. For ages 6 to 9 years.
Stone Soup – If your kids want to read stories for children by children, they’ll like Stone Soup. They may also want to consider submitting their own stories. For ages 8 to 13 years.
