Free Resources for Teaching Emergency Preparedness
Disasters are always a possibility. That’s why I think it’s important to teach kids emergency preparedness. It can help them feel a bit more secure knowing that their family is prepared for emergencies.

I went on a hunt recently for free resources that can be used to teach kids how to be prepared for an emergency. I found kid-friendly websites, activities, printables, and more.

I hope they help keep your kids safe during a disaster.

Emergency Preparedness Freebies

Kids Get a Plan: This site can help kids know what to do to prepare for an emergency. Also, click on the Adult section to get free downloadable pdf’s.

Fred the Preparedness Dog: Kids can learn to be prepared with Fred. Includes activities, printables, and more.




Ready.gov: Get curriculum for teaching emergency planning to kids.

Red Cross: This page on the Red Cross site has tips and links to helpful resources.

FEMA: This page on the FEMA site has Youth Emergency Preparedness Curriculum that you can use.

Sesame Street: This page has a video and a tool kit for teaching emergency preparation.

Save the Children: This site has free printables with thips you can use for teaching disaster preparation.

Utah.gov: This is a 39-page activity book for disaster preparation.

vbgov.com: This is a 15-page document on emergency preparedness for families with special needs children.

Get Prepared: This is a lesson for teaching kids how to be prepared and how to cope with an emergency.

Linn County: This site has links to free coloring books that teach about disaster preparation.

Health.mo.gov: This pdf has youth activities you can use to teach emergency preparedness.

Easy Science for Kids: Get a free printable word seek about emergency preparation.

Think Prepare Act: Get a downloadable comic book, activity book, coloring pages, and more on this site.

Get Ready for Flu: This site isn’t just about the flu. It also has information and pdf’s for preparing for disasters.
